God promises: “I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.” I feel it. And I am grateful!
Second, I’m a family man.
My wife, Nancy, is the kindest person I have ever known. I love life with her! We have three amazing children who, with their spouses, have created fourteen children. We love the whole bunch! They bring us joy and teach us vital lessons.
Third, I’m a creator.
I love making things with wood. I love fixing up houses. I have loved creating programs for universities. I enjoy organizing ideas into articles and books. All of us find joy as we use our gifts to create. (For information about programs and books I’ve created, see the Recommendations tab.)
Fourth, I’m a learner.
I love to read! I love books on theology, personal well-being, couple relationships, and parenting. I was amazed at insights available in my PhD program at Utah State University. I loved doing university research about the world of teenagers at Auburn University and the keys to happy marriages at the University of Arkansas Extension. Learning is a great adventure!
Fifth, I’m a teacher.
Working for 20 years as an extension specialist in Alabama and Arkansas allowed me to travel and teach. I love sharing powerful ideas with people! I enjoyed creating a TV series on parenting and speaking to conferences. I also love sharing ideas with friends over a plate of nachos.
Sixth, I’m blessed in my profession.
While thoroughly enjoying a career serving families, I was invited by the federal government to be a part of the national teams that developed conceptual models for parenting and couple relationships. It doesn’t seem right to have so much fun and still be recognized with the Arcus Outstanding Family Life Educator Award, the National Extension Career Achievement Award, and Fellow status with the National Council on Family Relations. Thanks to colleagues who have valued my work!
Seventh, I’m glad to meet you!
I hope we can get better acquainted as you and I share ideas on this blog.
